Wyeth's Place - watercolor
11 x 14 $225
In
the early 1980s, I studied oil painting for a brief period, but was
a full time teacher with little time for a hobby. After
a serious injury led to my retirement from public education in 2000,
painting in watercolor seemed the natural thing to do and I believe
it has had a great deal to do with my healing.
Thanks to two talented
artists in the area, Marni Lawson and Stan Keirstead, their wonderfully
inclusive approaches to teaching and their friendly students, I
was encouraged to continue painting throughout some difficult times.
Now I can't imagine not creating art.
I usually paint from memories of places where I have gathered a few
reference photographs, but also enjoy painting from dreamed images.
Poetry inspires a number of my paintings and linocuts. For the past
two years, I have been experimenting with monoprints developed from
using watercolor, ink, and other media to print from linocuts.
Each summer, my work is available at several locations in Maine. The
Artists & Artisans
Shop in Belgrade Lakes. The Corner in Mt. Vernon, S & S
Gifts in Smithfield, and L.Tardif Jewelers in Waterville carry my work
year
round and I
also welcome visitors at my home studio in Smithfield. My web site
is under development and will be available by January 2006
at www.artjourneys.biz.
