Marcia Baker’s energetic and vibrant watercolor paintings represent her connection with the woods and coast of Maine. She is known for her underwater scenes of trout and salmon. Vivid wildlife images, such as moose, ravens and wild birds, come to life on paper and canvas.
She is an avid ecologist and sportsman. Her passion for wildlife conservation recently landed her the 2015 “Conservationist of the Year” Award by the Maine Wilderness Guides Association. The Maine IF&W (Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife) has chosen Marcia’s painting, ‘A Fine Catch”, to use as their state-wide 2016 promotion.
Favorite outdoor pastimes, like kayaking, canoing or sailing to her favorite coastal island, are woven into stories. Sporting Images of fly-fishing, Nordic and alpine skiing, hiking, bird and duck hunting are captured from experiences with her husband. Yet wandering in a lupine field portrays moments of peacefulness. She is now expanding in oil painting as well as pastel media. Her aspiration is “to pass on those inspiring moments to you.”
Baker is also a retired psychotherapist and a self-taught artist. Baker resides with her family in Rangeley, Maine.
She has studied with Carlton Plummer, AWS; Carol Sebold, AWS; Karlyn Holman, AWS; Skip Lawrence, AWS, and wildlife artists like Heiner Hertling and Wanda Mumm.
