This holiday season, I am fundraising for The Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence (MCDEV), a nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence and providing resources for survivors. Here are a few facts about domestic violence and why we should all act now: 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men has experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Each year, 1 in 15 children live in homes in which one of the parents (or the parent’s partner) abuses the other adult. 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to the violence. 1 in 3 children who witnessed intimate partner violence reported being physically abused themselves. In Maine, a domestic violence assault is reported to law enforcement every 2 hours and 5 minutes. Many incidents of domestic violence go unreported—especially during the holidays, when family may feel pressure to maintain a sense of normalcy and keep their families together despite danger.
In support of survivors of domestic violence, I will be raffling off a new painting entitled, "Family." This original measures 18" x 24"(matted dimension), and stands at a $685 value. You will be able to choose a rustic, black, or gold frame for the painting. The cost is $5 per ticket, with a special of $10 for three.
